Trotwood's Green Sets State Record For TDs

Trotwood's Israel Green will go down in the state football championship record books thanks to incredible blocking on the line allowing him 35 carries in Friday's win over Avon. Green racked up 326 yards of the night's 436 and made all six touchdowns for the Trotwood-Madison Rams.
With 30 seconds to go in the first half Israel Green (3) takes
this one to the 4 yard line and a TD on the next play.
Trotwood's 42-28 win over the Avon Eagles included a few missed extra points. To compensate Trotwood made a few 2 point conversions. The first was by Mike Mccray in the first half.
All alone Mike Mccray takes this conversion in for two bringing
the score to 20-7 in the first half.
The post game celebration was was frenzied out on the field. The Rams did manage to settle down for at least one victory picture.

Earlier the seniors gathered with Coach Maurice Douglass on the podium to accept the trophy.

This was Trotwood's third visit to the state finals (1982, 2010,2011) and their first ever win.

Senior lineman Mather Cash examines the state trophy.
Senior Mike Simpson (QB) tries to get past Avon's Tyler Lance.

Rams Shake Trotwood On March To State

There is a vibration shaking the Trotwood community this week. You can especially feel it as you drive up Union Road past the high school. But you can also feel it at home, in the stores, and even in the neighboring communities.

For the second straight year the Trotwood-Madison Rams are heading to the state football championship finals.

Now this distinction does not come lightly. Nor is it lost on Coach Maurice Douglass who (as a Trotwood senior) helped lead his 1981 Trotwood team to the state final. And most of all it is treasured by each of the nearly 120 Division II high schools accross Ohio.

But at times during last Fridays game against Columbus' Marion-Franklin the vibrations went a little dim as Trotwood's 20-6 halftime lead was eroded. You could feel the thunder return in the fourth quarter as the Rams seem to come back alive and the seat warmers were empty on the Northmant Stadium bleachers, the fans never sat down again. The Rams won 47-44.

The Trotwood Rams Football Team is on the march to Masillon waving their 14-0 record to face Avon Friday night for the state championship trophy. Busses (seats available for $35) will carry fans, along with many carpools hastily arranged for the 3 and-a-half hour trek across Ohio.

Signs wishing the team good luck appeared in stores around town. The morning talk at the coffee shops is about the Rams offense and defensive tactics.
The vibrations are turning into a rumble. And a win Friday night could result in a magnitude 8 shake. Trotwood has good reason to celebrate either way.

(There will be a welcome back pep rally at the high school Saturday at 4:30pm.)

Rams Run Over Mt Healthy

Story and photos by Bruce Kettelle

Mt Healthy got a healthy dose of the Trotwood-Madison Rams last Friday in the first round of the 2009 Ohio football playoff season. Jerimiah Tolbert (#25) of Mt Healthy tried early and often to break the Ram defense but kept running into walls built by Christian Townsend and Jordan Paschal.

Tolbert's counterpart on the Rams offense is running back Antwan Gilbert. At times it seemed the Owls could stop Gilbert's incessant penetration.

Mt Healthy tried sending the ball with Tracy Barnes but that didn't work too well either.

Trotwood stuck with Gilbert and he dominated the first half with 211 yards scoring four touchdowns.

Gilbert was all smiles on the bench.

Near the end of the fourth quarter Israel Green (#25), a surprise substitution for Gilbert, made a midfield break and ran it in for the final touchdown and the 41-6 win.
Green is a freshman that is showing enough promise to be included on the varsity squad.
The Rams took a moment to rejoice on the field after the game but this Friday they will face Turpin. Turpin is undefeated this season and will undoubtedly spend this week studying the tapes to learn how to stop the the Rams running game. Trotwood and Turpin will play Friday night at 7:30 at the Princeton High School stadium. Advance tickets are $7 at Trotwood High School from 7-3:15 daily. $9 admission at the gate.

Trotwood Dazzels Troy In Drizzle

The Trotwood Rams were so hot Friday night spectators forgot about hot chocolate in the cold raw drizzle that enveloped the Good Samaritan Sportsplex at Trotwood-Madison High School. Antwan Gilbert proved to be a football machine moving the ball nearly 250 yards. Troy could not control the offense leaving the drenced field with a 25-13 Trotwood win.

Mason Escapes Trotwood With FG

By Bruce Kettelle

High school football fans that made the trek back to Welcome Stadium for the second half of last night’s weather delayed game were not disappointed today. Trotwood-Madison fielded the same players but looked like a different team. If they didn’t have to count the 0-10 first half performance Thursday night the Rams would have walked away winners.

The Rams opened quickly scoring twice in the early minutes of the second half to make it 14-10. But the Mason Comets were determined not to let the previous night’s efforts slip away and drove for a fourth quarter touchdown (14-17).

Trotwood not known for it’s field goal abilities drove into filed goal range and to the delight of the crowds Mouhamadou Seck connected for three tying up the game. Mason answered with a field goal of their own.

Trotwood’s drive in the last minutes moved the ball inside the 45-yard-line with a stunning 30-yard pass to Justin Favors. The electrified crowd roared.

The next play ended the game but not for Trotwood. Mason picked off a Ram pass and downed the ball to run out the last minute on the clock. Final score 17-20.

Watch for Antwan Gilbert at next week’s match against Dunbar also at Welcome Stadium on September 5th 7pm. He had some great moves today scoring both touchdowns.

Trotwood Rams Season Opener At Welcome

Posted by Picasa

UPDATE! Due to lightning the game was postponed at halftime and will resume at 3:30 today (Friday August 28) at Welcome Stadium. At the half Trotwood was scoreless 10-0. The Rams moved the ball several times but could not penetrate from the red zone. Both coaches will use this time to fine tune their strategies. Can Trotwood turn this delay into a win?

Varsity football’s first regular season start is on a Thursday this year. The non-Friday-night game is part of the two-day Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at Welcome Stadium.

This will be the first full test of the 2009 Ram squad after showing dynamic promise in pre-season scrimmages.

The Trotwood-Madison Rams will take the field against Mason at 8pm. Fans can come early to see the Chaminade Julienne/Troy match up starting at 5:30 on the same ticket.
